Cosmetics: Avoid these ingredients

Allergies

An allergy to certain fragrances is revealed by itchy, red skin. It’s not only the visual aspect of this problem that makes it unpleasant. An allergic reaction can also affect your well-being. That’s why you should by cosmetic products that are free from harmful ingredients.

Natural cosmetics

Did you know that even natural cosmetics don’t offer protection against harmful ingredients? Natural cosmetics don’t always declare all their chemical ingredients.  Before buying beauty products you should inform yourself about their ingredients.  Our online shop offers a wide range of cosmetics that are free from harmful ingredients.

The most harmful ingredients in cosmetics

Before buying a beauty product you should check that it doesn’t contain the following ingredients:

  •  Parabens
  • Fragrances
  • Synthetic colours
  • Phithalic acid
  • Sodium lauryl sulphate

Parabens

Many creams, shampoos and make-up products contain parabens.  Parabens have had a bad reputation for a long time. According to the most recent research, parabens affect the hormone system and can even contribute to the development of cancer. Parabens are only supposedly used to protect make-up from bacteria. One study has shown that parabens work like the hormone oestrogen and so can encourage the growth of tumours in the breast area.

Fragrances

Fragrances in cosmetics are particularly bad for those with allergies.  An allergic reaction to a certain fragrance can be caused at any time. So people with allergies and particularly sensitive skin should use fragrance free cosmetics. You’ll usually find fragrances in beauty products listed as perfume.  Particularly well known fragrances that should be avoided are geraniol, limonene, benzyl benzoate and salicylate. Some fragrances have a natural source but are synthetically produced.

Synthetic fragrances are used to make cosmetics smell good.  But these substances belong to a different class.  You should think about changing your cosmetics if you see these ingredients listed: amines, ester, sulphides, aldehyde or alcohols.  Synthetic substances are cheaper than natural fragrances.  Synthetically produced substances also longer lasting. Since some synthetically produced substances haven’t been researched enough, we recommend avoiding beauty products with artificial fragrances.  If you care about high quality and healthy skin care, our shop offers a wide range of such cosmetics products.

Colours

Many beauty products contain not only artificial fragrances, but also colours.  Artificial colours are used to make creams look good. Particularly well known colours are azo dyes. This type of dye not only causes allergies, but is also thought to be carcinogenic. Azo dyes are often listed as CI 19140 or CI 14720 in the ingredients of many cosmetic products.

Phtalates

If you see phithalic acid on the packaging of creams, make up or shampoos, stop using them.  The ingredient is thought to cause diabetes, infertility and obesity.  Sodium lauryl sulphate should also not be found in make-up, creams and toothpaste. Sodium dodecyl sulphate causes allergies and skin irritation. The substance causes inflammation and ulcers in the mouth.
