How to find the right toner for your skin
Since there are now products for every skin types, you shouldn’t leave your choice of toner to chance. So first you need to determine whether you have normal, dry or mixed skin. There are also products perfect for blemished skin. If you’re not sure of your skin type, have a consultation with a cosmetician, who can help you choose the right products. Basically, toners are suitable for any skin, as long as you choose a product that doesn’t dry the skin, but helps to restore its balance.
The right toner for oily, dry and mixed skin
Many toners have acidic ingredients that are not suitable for all skin types: fruit acids and salicylic acid which seem beneficial at first, but are not suitable for all skin types. Remember that such ingredients are primarily aimed at blemished skin as they can be quite aggressive and so not ideal for sensitive skin.
If you want a pore refining product, the acidity content is much lower, the pH value more neutral and so the product more gentle on skin. For very greasy and oily skin, a clarifying toner is recommended- one that contains alcohol has a greater cleansing, balancing effect.
If you have mixed skin and some dry places on your face, you must avoid using toners that contain alcohol. You can still use it, but only on the more oily T-zone. For dry areas it’s better to use a balancing product that moisturises. If your skin generally tends to be dry, use a moisturising cream after the toner. So your skin is optimally nourished and radiant all day long.
