The beauty ABC: Vanilla

Vanilla blossoms only open during the day and are only pollinated by certain types of bees and  hummingbirds.

Vanilla has a beneficial effect on the skin due to its essential oils (aromatic acids).  This oil has a complex structure which has not yet been fully researched. According to current knowledge, vanilla contains 150 ingredients, including sugar, spirits,   phenol and phenylester, acids and carbon compounds, as well as a unique component of vanilla, which gives the fruit its specific aroma.

The aroma of vanilla also reduces emotional stress, lifts your mood and can improve performance. Vanilla is often used as an aphrodisiac - in particular this super food helps women relax at the end of their cycle and dispel stress.  Interestingly, vanilla can help those with a sweet tooth prevent obesity and many other chronic diseases. The scent of vanilla in massage oils imparts a feeling of joy and also one of  repletion.

Vanilla is ideal in beauty care for all skin types.  Vanilla nourishes and softens very dry skin and combats the effects of hard water. It is particularly useful in winter, when skin can become dry and flakey.

Cosmetic procedures including vanilla are beneficial for women with greasy skin. The oil in the plant normalises the skin’s grease production, removes greasy shine and helps treat acne due to the light texture of vanilla oil and its ability to penetrate pores quickly. In addition, vanilla has bleaching properties, so it is often used in cosmetics to combat pigment spots.

Vanilla also has rejuvenating properties. It makes skin softer, firmer and smoother, lessening wrinkles and streamlining facial contours. Vanilla extract has great antioxidative properties, promotes regeneration of the tissue and lessens skin irritation and redness.

Vanilla is also good for your hair. Vanilla oil nourishes damaged and dull hair, as well as the tips of the hair, making hair soft with healthy shine and a silky feel. Vanilla forms a weightless layer on the hair which protects it against environmental damage.
