10 tips for a youthful appearance

1. Creams with vitamins

Vitamins A, C and E protect the skin against free radicals and so prevent premature ageing. There are cosmetic products that contain these antioxidants.  You can make a vitamin C scrub yourself.  Simply rub lemon juice over your face, neck and neckline and leave to work.   If you have dry skin, use cream that contains hyaluronic acid or urea.

2. Sun protection

It is best to use a day cream that contains SPF, even when the sun isn’t shining.  UV rays still penetrate through even thick cloud.  And they are responsible for up to 80% of skin ageing.
Of course you need to pack at least SPF 30 sun cream for a beach holiday. And importantly: stay out of the midday sun!

3. Instagram make-up

If your foundation is too dark it makes your complexion look older.  If you’re not sure what shade matches your skin tone, choose the lighter one.  And: a light cream foundation is easier to apply than powder make up and reduces the appearance of small wrinkles like soft focus when taking photos.

4. Beauty sleep

If you sleep 7 or 8 hours, your body regenerates quicker.  In sleep your immune system is strengthened and your skin renewed. That’s why it’s good to use a night cream which has anti-ageing ingredients to support your skin’s regeneration.

5. Sparkling teeth

Visit the dentist every 6 months for a professional clean. It makes even stained teeth look brighter.

6. Balanced diet

When you’re planning your weekly shop, add the following to your list: fish, olive oil, nuts, fruit and vegetables. And anti-ageing herbs and spices: ginger, sage and rosemary. Avoid sugar as much as possible! Because sugar molecules in cakes, sweets or lemonades make the blood vessels less elastic, so the skin becomes wrinkled.

7. Red wine and chocolate

Both contain lots of radical catchers: polyphenols which stimulate cell renewal and regenerate the skin. But enjoy them in moderation: Women shouldn’t drink more than 0.2l of red wine per day. And half a bar of dark chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 70%. Yum!
If you drink too much alcohol every day, it increases your cancer risk and ages your skin. Alcohol removes water from the body. Try to drink 2l of water, fruit juice, or herb tea per day to keep your skin plump.

8. Stop smoking

Giving up smoking not only benefits your heart and lungs, but also your skin. Even after one day without nicotine the oxygen level in the blood is higher so your skin looks pinker.

9. Relaxation

Studies prove that stressed people look older than satisfied people. Meditation, yoga and autogenic training are ideal for combatting stress. Find out which works best for you. If you don’t want to go on a course, you can do exercises at home. The important thing is that you relax regularly and not only when you’re on the point of burnout.

10. Sport

A toned body with strong muscles and good condition is the basis for a healthy, long life. And it makes you attractive too. Plan to do 30 minutes of endurance training twice a week, Walking, jogging, cycling and swimming. And you should also do half an hour of muscle training once a week.
