No more dark eye circles: how to get rid of dark rings under your eyes

Eye rings are dark shadows under your eyes. They are mainly due to the skin under the eyes being particularly delicate and thin. So veins show through, causing dark eye circles. 

Many things can cause eye circles. Genetic reasons or sleep deprivation can cause them. Consuming alcohol, coffee or smoking can also cause dark eye circles. These substances reduce the level of oxygen in the blood, making the blood darker and more visible through the thin skin layers. 

Another factor is skin ageing. As we age the skin around the eyes gets thinner. So dark veins under the skin are more visible.  

To combat dark eye circles you can conceal or prevent them. 

 

To prevent dark eye circles

Avoid salt
Salt binds with water in the body and face. This makes the eye area swell and worsens eye rings. So make sure you drink enough water. 

Caffeine 
Caffeine stimulates the blood circulation As an ingredient in skin care it can reduce swelling. For additional help to reduce swellings you can put your eye care in the fridge. Tip: Always pat in eye creams gently from the inside to the outside.

Sleep 
Sleeping well and having an ergonomic pillow will get rid of eye circles. The wrong pillow can impede lymphatic flow, causing your eyelids and tear sacks to swell and causing wrinkles.  

Care
The new generation of eye creams stimulates cells growth in the skin, making skin appear firmer and thicker. This makes eye circles less visible. 

 

To conceal eye circles

Concealer
Concealer is your last resort. Make sure you choose the right consistency for you skin type. A dry matt concealer actually emphasises eye circles and wrinkles. Choose a shade that is one shade lighter and warmer than your natural skin tone. You can also apply a little concealer if there is redness on your eye lids.
