The biggest trends in sunglasses for 2017

People with light eyes are particularly light sensitive and need to have enough glare protection. Glare protection comes in categories 0 to 4. You need to think carefully about glare protection when you’re wearing sunglasses because too high glare protection can impede driving.

You can’t tell just by looking at them how much sunglasses protect against UV rays. It’s not true that darker lenses offer better protection. When buying sunglasses you need to look at the marking on the label.

Particularly when travelling to southern countries or in the mountains, you need lenses with 100% UV filter or UV 400 protection, because the sun’s rays are stronger on the beach as they are reflected off the water, and reflected off the sea in the mountains. When buying sunglasses, look at the CE marking, which is mandatory on all sunglasses sold in the EU.

The right frame shape is also vital for the right sun protection. Ideally the lenses should go up to your eyebrows, leaving the least possible gap between your eyebrows and glasses so that the sun’s rays can’t get through.

Of course aside from protection, the look of your sunglasses is important too. 

Like every year, the classics are key. Aviator sunglasses are trendy again this year. Mirrored lenses are everywhere this year; the brighter, louder, the better! Not only are the lenses striking, but the unusual shapes or colours of the brackets or whole frames are also eye-catching with. Lenses with a colour gradient look particularly elegant. 

The retro look is also very hip this summer: cat-eye, or hippy style round glasses or geometric shapes. They’re a must-have for today’s style conscious woman.

Animal patterns, such as snake or in particular the timeless leopard and green tones reflect the trend for sustainability. Some manufacturers focus on sustainable materials such as bamboo or wood.
