Captivating red lips

Many women are afraid to wear red lipstick because it is very striking, application can sometimes be difficult and you don’t know which red to choose.  In the colder months and on special occasions, red makes a real statement.

Choosing the shade

You need to consider not only your hair colour, but most importantly your skin tone.
Light skin type: Very pale skinned women have a porcelain complexion and dark hair. With this combination it’s best to choose pure and strong shades. A cool raspberry red goes perfectly. Be careful with darker shades as they can make you look ill if you’re very pale.
Medium skin type: A medium skin type with a reddish complexion should choose a strawberry red. Blueish tones are also flattering.
Warmer skin tones: If you are blessed with light eyes and sun-kissed  copper skin you should choose the trendy orange red. The tone compliments no other skin tone so well. Neutral red tones are also great with this skin tone.
Mediterranean skin type: women with olive skin, dark eyes and hair can choose pretty much any shade of red. From strong berry tones to warm reds, they suit everything.

Application

Many women are scared about applying red lipstick as mistakes can be hard to correct. Our tips will help you achieve perfect red lips in an instant!

  1. Scrubs: First you should thoroughly remove any dead and dry skin. Because dark, strong colours make unevenness show up more.
  2. Base: After the scrub apply a base lipstick. It has a mattifying, smoothing effect and extends the lipstick’s hold. If you don’t have a base to hand, a concealer can also give an even base.
  3. Lipliner: A clear outline is important for dark red lips. Lipliner can also make lips look fuller. For red lips you should always choose a lipliner of the same colour as the lipstick and by no means darker. Strengthen the contour line by filling in the lips to the middle.
  4. Brush: Next apply the lipstick with a lip brush. Apply the colour with a brush direct from the lipstick and fill in your lips. Carefully blend the lipstick with the lipliner.
  5. Blot: Place an unfolded cosmetic tissue on your lips and lightly press it to your lips to remove any excess. If necessary apply a second layer of lipstick.

Other make-up

To make your red lips look elegant your complexion must be even. Spots and unevenness must be well covered. You should also make sure that your eye make-up is fairly discreet, so don’t use coloured eye shadow. A fine eyeliner and beautiful eye lashes are enough to complete the look.
