Beauty secrets from Korea

For centuries Korean women have been increasingly interested in skincare. In childhood girls are taught the most important rules of skincare. This is how the beauty secrets of Korean women are passed down the generations. There are no complicated rules or special procedures- it’s all really simple and clear.

Beauty from childhood on

It’s not always easy to have beautiful skin. Korean women believe that the younger they start with skincare, the better the results.  Girls are taught to care for their skin. They learn that beautiful skin is an important part of being a woman. Correct and timely skincare greatly reduces the risk of age spots and other skin problems. Skin becomes healthier and more radiant.

Double cleansing

Korean women cleanse their skin twice. They thoroughly remove not only make-up, but also dirt that has accumulated on their face during the day.
First they remove their make-up. They normally use a cleansing lotion for this. Then a thin layer of cleansing oil is applied. This removes bacteria, grease and other impurities from the skin. The oil is carefully washed off with hot water.
Then comes the second facial cleansing. A mild cleansing gel or lotion is used for this. Foam the product well in your hands and then massage it into your skin in circular motions.

Scrubs 

Cleanses and scrubs help not only remove skin impurities, but also cleanse and open the pores. Dead skin cells are removed, leaving the skin smooth and fresh. This procedure is particularly popular with Korean women.
Note that scrubs aren’t suitable for daily use. Koreans usually use a treatment specifically suited to the problems of a certain skin area.

Tonic/ face water

After cleansing, Korean women always use a face tonic to restore their skin’s pH value. It can refresh and nourish the skin and close the pores.

Serum

For Koreans, skin care has many elements.  After cleansing and toning they like to use a serum. This contains highly concentrated active ingredients that nourish and regenerate the skin. Its light consistency, in contrast to lotions and creams, makes it easy to apply evenly to the face. Applied to the face and neck, skin is wonderfully refreshed and has a healthy glow. Skincare ampoules can be used as an alternative to a serum. They contain highly concentrated liquids with lots of vitamins. A few drops are enough to protect the skin against most problems.

Moisturisation

Korean women use a light moisturising cream to make skin silky soft. It’s quickly absorbed and leaves no trace on clothes. The moisturising cream is applied in circular motions to the face, neck and neckline. A light massage improves the blood circulation and has a healing effect on the skin.

Natural cosmetics 

Natural ingredients are key to Korean beauty secrets. All Asian women believe that nature is the best beauty product. Koreans often make face masks from natural ingredients like green tea, fermented oats and mucin snail secretion. These natural masks are used at least twice a week.

Sun cream SPF

Korean women look after their skin and never go outside without sun protection and avoid the direct sun.  Throughout the year they use creams with a high SPF, even in dull weather. Sun creams prevent the formation of wrinkles and protect skin from ageing.

Eye creams

The skin around the eyes is very delicate and sensitive. Korean women believe that this area requires special care. They think that the delicate skin around the eyes is best treated by applying intensive moisturising cream before they go to bed. Regular application protects skin against dark circles, premature wrinkles and swellings.

Diet

Korean beauties believe that “you are what you eat!”. They think that the condition of their skin depends on what they’ve eaten during the day.
Their diet is characterised by high nutritional values and variety. Kimchi is one of their favourite dishes. It’s made from fermented cabbage and is rich in vitamins B and beta carotene. If Koreans eat this traditional dish regularly, their skin looks healthy and has a beautiful, even tone.
Another healthy Korean dish is makgeolli. It’s the Korean national drink and has a alcohol content of about 7%. It’s made from rice wine or rice with water added and coarsely filtered. It contains many minerals and amino acids which make the skin brighter and more elastic. Mekgeolli is drunk or added to homemade beauty treatments.

Ombre effect lipsticks

Young Koreans also have beauty secrets for decorative cosmetics. Koreans prefer gentle lines and tones. So they use an ombre effect on their lips: A lighter colour shading is applied to the edges, with a more intense colour in the centre. They use a neutral pale red lipstick as the basis. Pink is used on the middle part of the lips. Then colours are then blended together using a brush or finger, giving a natural effect. 

Discipline

Korean women look after their skin regularly and intensively, never mind how busy they are. That’s the main rule that should be followed to stay beautiful. Koreans always take the time for their daily beauty ritual. You can’t be lazy if you want beautiful, blemish-free and firm skin. So you must always follow the individual steps. Give yourself at least 10-20 minutes for it each day.
