Moisturisation for dry summer skin

Dry skin is more prone to wrinkles.  So it always needs plenty of moisturisation.  Otherwise its protective barrier isn’t as effective. Every day your skin is exposed to many external influences from which it must protect itself, such as bacteria, sunshine and various harmful substances in the air.
Dry skin is often much thinner and so also more sensitive.  It can also itch and tear. Sometimes the skin becomes flaky, which doesn’t look very nice.  If the skin’s protection barrier is impaired, germs and bacteria can get into the body.

How should you look after dry skin?

If you have dry skin you mustn’t use care products that contain alcohol, because it draws more moisture from the skin. So when you’re buying creams, lotions, shower gels and shampoos it is important to look at the ingredients.  You must cleanse your skin twice daily. Ideally you should use a care product that is specially developed for cleansing.  Dry your skin with the softest towel you have and apply a mild, rich moisturising cream. Products containing vitamin E are ideal.

Moisturising the skin from the inside.

You can look after your skin from the inside as well as the outside. Make sure you drink enough water every day (at least 1.5-2 litres) and increase your consumption of foods that contain lots of water, like cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelon and courgettes. There are many fruits and vegetables that are great for providing moisturisation from the inside. Lots of them also contain valuable vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants.  Antioxidants combat skin ageing and protect skin.
An oil bath is another way to alleviate dry skin  but preventing it drying out. After the bath, rub in a mild body milk.

Care products containing oil to soothe dry summer skin

When your skin is very dry you need to use a product that has a high oil content. This ensures a longer lasting supply of moisture. A separate care product should be used for each body area. The needs of the feet are different from those of the face or hands.  Many people find that their lips get dry quickly. A special cream can combat this and prevent the thin skin from tearing,  which can be really painful on the lips.
Many older people don’t drink enough water and so they have dry skin, which encourages wrinkle formation.
