Superfood for your skin: avocado

Under its dark green to black skin, the avocado is a real superfood. Its green flesh is rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids and primarily unsaturated fatty acids. These are good for the heart and circulatory system as they contribute to lowering cholesterol. Avocado has a similarly high level of B vitamins, which support the nervous system.

And the fruit, which has been part of the diet in Latin America for thousands of years, also has a great flavour. Mixed with salt, pepper and fresh chopped tomatoes it makes a tasty guacamole. If you mix mashed avocado with cooked rice it makes a delicious and nutrient rich snack that also looks appetising.

Beauty food avocado

Avocados not only benefit your insides, they also have a positive effect on your skin, hair and figure. They are rich in fibre and due to their rich composition they prevent hunger attacks. They also contain a lot of vitamin H, which is good for healthy hair and nails. There are so many reasons why avocado should have a place in your diet. The exotic fruit is equally beneficial to your external appearance.
Avocado for more beautiful skin

If your skin is dry and stressed, help can come not only from the cosmetics shelf, but also from your own kitchen. With a water content of 66 %, if you spread ripe avocado on your face or hands it is very moisturising. The oleic acids in it also binds moisture and helps to restore moisture in the cells, thereby preventing skin from drying quickly.

The vitamins A and E in avocado support cell regeneration and antioxidants prevent cell damage. So avocado not only nourishes, but also has an anti-ageing effect on skin.
Avocado face mask

To harness the power of avocado for your skin, mash the flesh of half an avocado (very ripe ones are fine) and add a teaspoon of honey, one teaspoon of natural yoghurt and some olive oil. Apply the creamy mixture to your cleaned face and leave the mask to work for 20 to 30 minutes, before washing it off with lukewarm water. If you have some mixture left, it is good for your hands and nails. Leave to work for 10 minutes.

Avocado for daily face care

If you want to integrate avocado into your daily beauty programme you can use it to remove make-up. Either rub a cotton pad over the open fruit and then use the oily residue or you can use extracted avocado oil. To counter eye bags and dark circles, put some avocado oil under your eyes in the evening and leave it on overnight.
