Tips for dealing with stress

Stress begins in the head

A stressful life is caused by external factors on which you often have little direct influence. Daily life is defined by your job, deadlines, meetings or many other private commitments. Appointments need to be kept, work needs to be completed.

Stress starts in your head. Even when you’re really busy, your own attitude determines your personal stress level. With a combination of the right attitude and good organisation of your daily life, you can deal with even a stressful day in a relaxed way.

Smiling through your day

A smile on your lips is the key a relaxed attitude.  Whatever happens, there’s always something that’s beautiful. And you mustn’t overlook them. Think about lovely situations and things and smile! Try it. As soon as you start to smile, your tension begins to dissipate.

Relaxation with the right attitude

Of course a purely physical laugh isn’t enough. You also need the right inner attitude. Sometimes we take on too much and don’t set any clear intermediate goals. We see only a mountain of work to be done. Perhaps we don’t even know which end of the mountain to begin at. So we’re confronted by a problem that soon feels overwhelming and leads to stress. And there’s the pressing thought that we must finish it all quickly. But there is too much work to be done in one day or by a particular time. So the pressure inside grows.

If you encounter this issue in your life, then it is time to change your inner attitude. It doesn’t take a lot to do it. A little shift in your thinking resolves the situation.

Instead of seeing a big mountain, just see a small part of it. Consider part of your task. Don’t get distracted. When you’ve finished that task, sit back and tell yourself that you’ve achieved something. Have a little walk around or a break. And then start on the next small task.

This way you’ll have a clear idea of what you achieve day by day. You’ll have a sense of success rather than seeing an insurmountable mountain.

An ordered life

You need to be organised to break your mountain of work down into smaller tasks. You need to categorise the work stages. At first this might seem time consuming. With a good system and regular care it’ll actually make your work easier.

This includes not only your work tasks, but all the other things you have to get done in your personal life. Organise your day!

And don’t forget to have relaxed days. You shouldn’t make appointments too close together. You need to be able to quickly and flexibly change procedures. Otherwise you become a slave to your diary.

Don’t see your deadlines and tasks as annoyance. Approach them in a relaxed way and enjoy your daily tasks.

Think about whether the tasks you find tiresome really have to be so, and perhaps you’ll sense a change.

Resist hurrying

As mentioned already, you should avoid rushing. There should be enough spare time around every appointment. Take enough time to do everything you have to do outside the appointments. If you can’t finish something today, it can be done tomorrow. Don’t put yourself under pressure!

See the positive

There’s something beautiful and positive in everything and in every new day. Keep your eyes open. Don’t look at the negative, but at the lovely things in life.

Summary

To cut a long story short: Life is precious You’re not living to rush from one appointment to another. Likewise, you’re not living to leap from one task to the next. You need to also make space for doing the things you enjoy. These tips will help you avoid a stressful day when you have a lot on your plate.
