The beauty ABC: coffee

Coffee contains the following elements: iron, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, sucrose, cellulose, minerals, organic acids. Caffeine plays a special part in the composition of coffee. When we drink coffee the caffeine regulates glucose levels in the blood and raises the overall tone of the body. What effect does caffeine have on our skin and hair?

Fighting cellulite

The caffeine in coffee beans strengthens us not only from the inside, but from the outside too.  It activates cell metabolism and stimulates blood microcirculation, causing unnecessary fat deposits to be burnt. That’s why caffeine is used in anti-cellulite creams and figure correcting products. Researchers from the State University of Rio de Janeiro conducted an experiment in which 99 women applied a cream containing caffeine to their waist and thighs for a month. The results surprised not only the women, but also the researchers: 80% of participants saw a reduction of a few centimeters in their thigh measurement.

Elasticity and anti-ageing

Scrubs and creams containing caffeine help not only to combat cellulite, but to firm skin. When skin has lost its elasticity and tone, caffeine can help to remedy it. It activates metabolic processes and stimulates enzymes responsible for breaking down  cholesterol. As a result the water content of the skin is normalised.  So skin looks not only firmer and smoother, but the contours of the face look tighter too.

Moisturisation and nutrition

Substances in caffeine prevent skin from drying out and form a protective layer. Caffeine can regulate the processing of fats and lipids. So scrubs containing caffeine are the best way to prevent flakey skin and effortlessly remove callused skin. Simply add some well ground coffee to your favourite shower gel and massage it into problem areas.

Lymph drainage

Caffeine is used in lymph drainage products due to its ability to stimulate blood microcirculation. Caffeine has a positive effect on the sensitive areas of the face, such as around the eyes: it stimulates lymph drainage and reduces swelling. This minimises bags under the eyes and signs of tiredness. Caffeine is often used for lymph drainage because it stimulates the metabolism and removes excess fluids from the body.

Hair growth and hair loss

Caffeine is a brilliant energiser for hair: it stimulates growth and prevents hair loss. The International Journal of Dermatology published a study that proved that caffeine blocks the process that destroys hair follicles, which is the main cause of hair loss in men. It is said that you should rub coffee grounds into your scalp to combat hair loss. In this case the coffee acts as a scrub, allowing the hair roots to breathe and nourishing them. Even more effective are professional products that contain concentrated caffeine.
